January 2011 Workshop

HOW DID THE MASTERS TEACH?

Friday, January 21, 2011
7:00-9:00 p.m.
University of Arizona School of Music, Room 106

(See below for costs to attend)

Have you ever wondered about the teaching methods of great composers? Were they successful teachers as well as successful composers, or were they better at one thing than another? Did they only teach to be sure to have a steady income, or did they love teaching?

Sondra Soderlund, author of How Did They Play? How Did They Teach? A History of Keyboard Technique, will be sharing with us answers to some of these questions at this workshop. She will also be demonstrating various techniques on piano and harpsichord.

Dr. Soderlund holds degrees from Stanford University, the University of Southern California, and Bethany College. She teaches harpsichord and organ at Mills College in Oakland, California.

If you would like to attend this workshop, please RSVP ahead of time with Diann Lopez, TMTA Vice President.
Students (any age) are $10,
TMTA members are $20, and non-TMTA members are $25. Make checks payable to TMTA and mail to Diann as soon as possible. Her address is 1792 W. Linden St., Tucson, AZ 85745. Space is limited!

New Pamela Decker CD Set

The August issue of Diapason (Recording review section) has a great review of Pamela Decker's two-CD set Decker Plays Decker, issued by Loft Recordings. Dr. Decker is both composer and performer on this CD-set, playing her works on the Flentrop organ at St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle, Washington.
